BYS Matte Maven Glamourbox Unboxing & First Impression

I'm so late to this band wagon but I have been so good at controlling myself not to get sucked in and buy this special box or subscribe to any other subscription box (for that matter) which turned out to be unsuccessful as evidenced by my previous blog & Instagram posts. Gah!

But, for the love of beauty & blogging, here we are.

This is a special edition box by Glamourbox.Ph & BYS Cosmetics. If you haven't heard of Glamourbox before, it is a beauty box subscription service based in the Philippines and they also sell beauty products in their website. This "matte maven" box have been available several months ago but as of today it has been sold out already.

First of all, how often do you receive a package wrapped up like this? It was wrapped in layers of bubble wrap primarily of course (but, you don't want to see a photo of that). I really like Glamourbox's box because it's very sturdy and you can definitely reuse it.

Products included in the box are the following:

BYS Contour and Highlighting Kit (Daring or Goddess) - I got the Daring palette which came with 2 blushes, a bronzer and a highlighter.

These swatches nicely and they give off decent pigments. I'm not a fan of the bronzer shade though, it's a bit too shimmery for me.

~ It's retail price is not indicated in the website ~

BYS Matte Eyeshadow 8 Palette Neutrals

This palette is disappointing to the point that a swatch is not needed because it barely gave off any pigment. The texture & formulation is chalky as well :(

~ This retails at 449 Php ~

BYS Matte Lipstick in Latte to Go

This lipstick is surprisingly on the pinkish shade of nude which I like. It's definitely perfect for everyday makeup and it glides on creamy & smoothly as well. This however is not matte at all as you can see from the swatch.

~ This retails at 299 Php ~

BYS Liquid Brow Pen (Natural Brown and Light Brown) - I got the natural brown shade

This is my first liquid brow pen and I haven't used it yet on my eyebrows but just based on the swatch, it goes on quiet patchy, the color pay-off is not consistent. That is just my first impression, so I have to try it out first to give my full review. But the color is perfect for my hair color.

~ This retails at 449 Php ~

BYS Eyeliner Gel with Brush in Black Magic

I feel the same way for this eyeliner gel set. The swatch came off patchy but I like that it is matte black. I have to test it out first. The brush is handy & good quality as well.

~ This retails at 549 Php ~

BYS Matte Nail Enamel - I got the Matte Deep Berry shade

I love this nail polish! The shade that I got is gorgeous. You'll need about 3 layers of this though to get the color but it dries in an instant and it is what it says it is - matte. This is definitely worth trying and I'm excited to get the other shades.

~ This retails at 199 Php ~

My overall experience with GlamourBox.Ph have been amazing. This is my second time ordering from them and they always deliver on time. I like their packaging as well. Their customer service is responsive to any queries.

This BYS special edition box is a great value for money (except for the eyeshadow palette TBH) especially if you're someone that is just starting to discover and use makeup. Start out with affordable makeup then go from there. I know there are a lot of hidden makeup gems from drugstore makeup brands. And with subscription boxes like this you can really test out new makeup items with just a fraction of the cost.

All the products included in the box are full sizes, by the way. I got it for only 1,100 Php and an additional 110 for shipping but the total SRP value of all these is 3,044 Php.

What do you think, steal? or eh?

Thanks for visiting,

My Take on the SampleRoom + Olay #5NightsChallenge

This blog may not be random after all.

All my posts so far have been just about beauty (gah!) but beauty & skincare have always been on the top my interests list lately.

Anyhow, on to the main point of this blog post.

Sample Room Philippines recently launched Olay Regenerist Night Ritual serum & cream as one of their samples that you can avail from their site. Olay has been one of their partner brands I believe because other products from the brand have been available in their sample roster before. In line with this launch, they've put out a "5 Nights Challenge" for anyone who has availed of the sample combo. The rules are pretty simple, take a before and after photos while using the products and share your experience with it.

This is my very first time to join an online skincare challenge so excuse my "newbieness"

And now that I have rambled a lot, here's my freshly washed bare face in a photo taken in natural lighting in an afternoon minutes after I received my SampleRoom + Olay package.

Over the past 5 years or so I have been doing my best to take care of my oily to combo typed skin and I don't want to jinx myself but I never did I experienced any major skin problems (whew!). But now that I am on my late 20's, my skin concerns have been enlarged pores, blackhead, whiteheads and fine lines.

Needless to say, this Olay Night Ritual duo couldn't come in a more perfect timing. That is why I had to try it! So for five days & nights straight, I have switched my old skincare routine to this serum essence & moisturizing cream. I must add though that I always like to tone so I continued using a pore minimizing toner right after cleansing my face.

Fast forward, five nights after. . .tada!

To be honest, I cannot see that much of a difference but that is expected for skincare effects take a bit longer. But, I FEEL the difference. My skin now feels plumper and softer. What I love about these skincare duo is how it instantly soaks into my skin so it does not feel sticky or heavy. Each has it's own scent but I like them both. The youth essence smells floral and fresh while the cream is sweet scented. It's lightweight, did not clogged my pores, did not caused me any breakouts and it feels comfortable on the skin.

Overall, I really enjoyed the experience of having to try the Olay Regenerist Night Ritual duo and documenting my before & after. I may not have seen tremendous changes with how my skin looks after 5 nights but I will definitely continue using this because so far I feel that my skin is loving it and I believe if you find skincare products that does this. . .they're worth for keeps :)

My First BDJ Subscription Box : Unboxing & Experience

What took me so long?

I saw a quote on Pinterest saying something like, we're all planning lots of things in our head and then life happens. That's what happened. Life happened. So my love for blogging took a back seat for months.

Anyhow, I am back BIG time (If I will say so myself)! I've been dreaming to have this post for the longest time and here it is - my first ever BDJ (Belle De Jour) box subscription experience.

If this is the first time you heard about BDJ or Belle De Jour Box, it is a monthly beauty subscription service from the Philippines. As stated in their website, "BDJ BOX was created to help every Filipina who is experiencing a hard time choosing which products best fit them. With the help of our beauty and fashion experts, we’ll try our best to customize a beauty box for each subscriber." They have 3 types of subscription boxes : regular, elite & luxe. Regular is the cheapest one at around 500 pesos, the elite boxes are priced at 1,480 pesos and then the luxe boxes are the most expensive.

I'll be a creeper here and admit that I have been lusting for these boxes since last year, ever since I knew beauty subscription boxes exist. I feel giddy on the idea of opening up a box filled with beauty goodies and paying a fraction of the cost. That's like Christmas morning for someone who loves beauty & makeup! But battling with my frugality, I keep telling myself I do not need it, I never got around to ordering one. And then there was some time that all their boxes were sold out, and then their regular boxes were no longer available. Fast forward May 1st this year when I had some cash to burn, I caved in.

When I first learned about BDJ Box through their website, social media and from Filipina YouTubers, I knew it was the best subscription services here in the Philippines. Their boxes are sold out within days, the have great reviews online, their partner brands are great and you get big value for your money. But, to be honest, I was disappointed with my very first experience with them. Not with this month's products because for me it's kind of the risk you have to take when you order - that you'll never know until your box arrives. I was disappointed on their overall services to their customers. First of all, in the site it says that they ship around the 2nd or 3rd week of the month; they shipped May 31st. Now, that can be totally understandable for some issues not within their control might have happen. I felt bad that they don't seem to care about the large number of comment/questions they get from their social media accounts particularly on their Instagram. I've been checking their feed daily since 3rd week of May to get updates for they have promised a sneak peek on one of their posts which never happened. I see a lot of comments asking them where the sneak peeks are and when will the box be shipped yet i only saw one response saying the box is worth the wait. I wished that they had atleast a post dedicated to this concerns instead of just a random comment in the sea of questions from their customers. I felt they were a little bit insensitive on that part knowing a lot of people who ordered are left hanging while they just continue posting inspirational quotes and makeup looks.

Now, will I order again? I'll probably will. Because at the end of the day I still love the idea of beauty subscription boxes. I hope other subscription box companies like SaladBox & Glamourbox would step up their game as well to encourage healthy competition.

Anyhow, let's have a look on my very first BDJ May 2016 Box. The theme this month is "Summer Love" featuring products from Revlon.

When you open the box, the products are neatly & securely packaged so nothing was damaged. It also comes with leaflets that feature each product's description & price.

Finally, these are all the products inside the box :

Until then,
